Acrylic Painting Techniques
Hey everyone! I recently sold a new painting a few weeks ago, titled “Botanical,” so I decided to share with you guys how I made it. This piece was done as a color study in school, using an analogous color scheme consisting of red-violet, violet, and blue-violet. Before starting, I took some notes on painting(acrylic) techniques.

Initial sketches and planning
After that, I made some rough sketches to brainstorm my color scheme and subject matter.

Value Scales
I eventually settled on an analogous color scheme with red-violet, violet, and blue-violet for a picture of a Red Hawaiian Flower that I took in Hawaii. I also created some swatches of value scales to make sure that I had a full value range going throughout the entire picture.
Overall, I was really satisfied with the results and how the piece had a sense of serenity and unity in it. I’m also really excited to have sold my first painting, so I decided to donate the money to charity. This piece was definitely a lot of fun for me to make, and I hope to continue to create and sell artwork in the future.
